Star Wars - Hound's Tooth v2.0

Description

I sort of ran behind in getting this done, a revamp of my Hound's Tooth SketchUp model that I intended to coincide with the release of all the 2015 Star Wars toys out there, especially the inclusion of this particular ship - finally - as a expansion for Fantasy Flight's X-Wing miniature combat game. But, as usual, I just couldn't get the free time I wanted these past few weekends to work on it.

If you don't know this ship, it's from the expanded Star Wars universe, first appearing in "Tales of the Bounty Hunters," a series of short stories one of which was "The Prize Pelt: The Tale of Bossk."

The biggest differences from my previous version of the ship,
the most obvious, full-model textures where I tried some new techniques that made it easier to accomplish in SketchUp. I also added cockpit windows (that are shown on some illustrations of this ship); likewise there is a small detailed bridge inside the windows - check it out in 3d. I also noticed on the Fantasy Flight miniature, there are rearward pointing engines behind the middle of the hull - the upward pointing nozzles are still there as well, but the modellers included what looks more like rearward thrust drives, which make more sense. I managed to squeeze these engines in above what I had on my old model as a cargo access hatch.

The Hound's Tooth belonged to Bossk, a reptilian Trandoshan bounty hunter who was among the agents hunting Han Solo in "The Empire Strikes Back". The ship is a modified Correllian Engineering Corp. YV-666 transport, although the ship's appearance is nothing like CEC's typical saucer-shaped designs. Preferring to sneak up on his prey, Bossk fitted the ship with sensor masks and jamming equipment. It also carried within the ship is a customized Z-95 Headhunter called the "Nashtah Pup" that Bossk used as a scout vessel and "escape pod" if the Hound became crippled.

In the X-Wing miniature game, the Pup is an added feature. If the Hound is destroyed in the game, the player can bail out last second with it and continue the game. I didn't model the Headhunter with this yet - I may in the future. I also have no idea where the ship would be docked but I'm guessing the ship is launched from the ship through a blow-out panel - perhaps along the top of the hull just behind the cockpit section. At least that's where I was thinking of placing it. The fighter would therefore sit vertically inside the ship.

I didn't make the background image.
