The Lightbender (a ship for Star Wars)

Description

A long time ago, for a West End Games version of the Star Wars RPG game I ran back, way back in the day, I made this drawing, (ink and colored pencils BTW, so yes and can draw), for a ship I called "The Lightbender" which in my game was a custom-built ship made by an NPC character named Bo'bin Kranz from the scrap of dozens of other ships, mainly because he was stranded on a remote world among the wreckage of other ships and had to build it to escape. Took him years of isolation and brute survival but he pulled through and constructed this bird that actually got off the ground.

Kranz had since tinkered with it once he returned to to stellar civilization and improved upon the craft making into what it was when the PCs of my game encountered it. Unfortunately, Kranz was subsequently killed off by the villain of the adventure in his relentless pursuit of the PCs, and the PCs took his ship for their use for the rest of the game.

I remember the PCs didn't care much for the ship and wanted to use something else. The guys I gamed with almost never liked anything I came up with because they were dicks. But, I think it was because the interior I mentioned was cramped, and all the way down the center of the ship was no wider than the cockpit (which might have been taken from a YT-1300 or something similar). So cramming six characters into that was kind of hell for them, LOL. Plus the ship constantly broke down, something was sparking, pipes were leaking, it stunk really bad, you know all the things that gave it personality.

Anyway, I decided to share the ship here, even though the image is really small, unfortunately, because it was scanned by me back in the late 90's or early 2000s and Photoshopped a bit (I gave it a black background), but otherwise it was always as it appears here. I also cannot take full credit on it's design because I think it was influenced by art I found in the old West End Games Star Wars books I had at the time however I searched though all my old pdf files of those books and couldn't find the art I might have referenced for this - so is it original after all? I have no idea. I don't remember.

I'm currently in the process of making a 3d version which I'm having someone else do just to see how it turns out. More to follow on that.

Anyway, enjoy.

BTW, although this news story is from 2012, you can see how a determined person with a little bit of engineering skill and duct tape could make a vehicle out of junk to survive: www.autoblog.com/2012/05/23/ma…

Those guys must have been complete idiots. That is a beautiful custom-built cobbled-together freighter.
