Star Frontiers - Assault Scout

Description

This is a 3d build of the iconic Assault Scout from the classic sci-fi role-playing game "Star Frontiers" published in 1982 by TSR, (now Wizards of the Coast).

The Assault Scout was used by the UPF, (United Planetary Federation), the main interstellar government of the game setting. It was an all-purpose warship filling the roles of a heavy fighter, system patrol boat, recon scout and light fleet escort. The ship could support a crew of six – a pilot, navigator, and up to 4 specialists who served as gunners and technicians. The ship was armed with lasers and missile/torpedo launchers.

The ship has six decks, essentially small rooms, that were stacked upon one another, fitted from bow to stern, however the ship appeared in illustrations to be able to land upright using a vertical support gantry or on it's belly with retractable landing gear. I'm amusing that when making a belly-landing the crew seats and control stations would most likely reorient themselves to upright positions. The ship could also take off from vertical launch platforms with the nose pointed upward like early space rockets. In space, they were small enough to transported aboard carriers along with other fighters and support craft.

I didn't make the background image.
